Detonate is a one week-long (Monday to Friday) daytime activity club run each summer by the churches in Chorleywood.
Detonate is for primary school age children in Years 1 to 6 living in Chorleywood and the surrounding areas.
Detonate takes place at The Russell School in Chorleywood around the last week in July each year. See our website front page for the latest dates.
Detonate is for children in school years 1 to 6 ( in the school year ending just before Detonate). Children in the reception year are not eligible to attend Detonate.
During the Detonate day children will be taking part in a number of actvities including, for example, sport, craft, art, games, small group time, big group time etc.
Your child will need to bring the following items to Detonate each day:
There is always an overall theme for the week. Each day will have it’s own related focus on an aspect of that theme.
Each child is allocated to a small group (up to 10 children per group) with an allocated Small Group Leader and Small Group Helper.
The small group leader and helper have the primary responsibility for supervising the children in their group for the whole day.
Yes, we have a dedicated trained first aid team on site. They will use the emergency contact numbers provided by each parent/guardian/carer to contact you if there is any medical issue.
Children bring their own lunch.
Detonate only provide water and biscuits. If there are any food restrictions or allergies that we need to know about then these can be logged by parents when they apply for a place at Detonate.
Safeguarding is under the authority of the Diocese of St Albans, St Andrews Church Chorleywood and the safeguarding officer for Detonate, Judith Palfreman
Parents (or guardians or carers) of the children can visit to observe the final 30 minute session in our main tent on the final Friday of Detonate. Details will be provided just before Detonate starts. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the Detonate experience for that half hour!
Apart from that Parents are only allowed on site at drop-off and collections times at the beginning and end of the day.
The timetable may vary, but in general, there are sessions at the beginning and end of the day in our large tent where everyone gathers together for games, music, singing, teaching and all manner of fun. Between those two sessions there are a variety of activites conducted in small groups.
